I like your idea of sticking to similar foods day-to-day. I always say to people I work with that they should sit down and make a list of foods that they love. Make these foods their priority each day. Use them to make different dishes, and then swap the protein, carb, and fat sources every day/week depending on their personal preference.
This simply makes daily food tracking and meal prep easier. Also, greater dietary variety has been found to cause higher calorie intake and weight gain.
