Here’s something that’ll put an end to the debate between you two:

Body fat loss is not training related adaptation. The two main training related adaptations are strength and muscle gain. Fat loss is the “adaptation” of nutritional adjustments that lead to creating a calorie deficit.

Which is why I always say: Train for muscle and strength; Eat for fat loss.
